Why We Do It
Adult literacy (and numeracy) is a critical issue, yet it is a priority that does not receive equitable attention considering the social, political and economic consequences it can have on individuals, families and in our communities to thrive and succeed.
With over 50% of adults in the KGO community with low literacy skills, the KGO Adult Literacy Program is not only a call to action but to bring attention to this important issue. Though this figure looks alarming, it’s serves as motivation that we all have a role to play in ensuring that adults are supported with the necessary resources, skills and knowledge to succeed – in their own way.
